GTA's Mark Reardon Recognized for Leadership in Information Security

Mark Reardon, GTA Chief Information Security Officer and IT Strategy Officer, was one of five finalists for the 2009 Information Security Executive of the Year Awards.

The awards recognize information security executives and project teams for outstanding achievement in risk management, data asset protection, compliance, privacy and network security.  Nominees represented the southeast region, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.  Sponsored by Executive Alliance, the program is one of the nation’s largest, most widely recognized awards programs for IT security executives.

“The winners and the finalists exemplify what the information security industry is about in terms of vision, execution and results,” said Mary Lou Heastings, president of Executive Alliance.

Mr. Reardon leads the efforts of the Georgia Technology Authority in information security architecture, policies, services, assessment, investigation and coordination.  He also oversees enterprise IT governance and strategic planning.  Mr. Reardon has 30 years of experience in IT leadership focused on information security and networking technology.  Under his direction, Georgia has adopted the FISMA Risk Management Framework and published its first statewide Enterprise Information Security Report.

Prior to joining GTA in 2005, Mr. Reardon served as Director of Information Security Engineering for Cybertrust, Inc.  He directed the development of global information security management software and, following a merger, led the integration of several security and data systems on two continents.  Mr. Reardon also served as Senior Information Security Consultant for Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he led compliance efforts for IT systems based on corporate standards and industry best practices.  At S1 Corporation, he managed the development, implementation and operation of secure applications for the online financial industry.

Mr. Reardon holds a degree in applied mathematics from California State University at Fullerton and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
