How do I ...
Apply for unemployment
Unemployment Insurance is intended to provide temporary, partial wage replacement to workers who become unemployed through no fault of their own. In Georgia, the Unemployment Insurance Program is administered by the Department of Labor. Application for benefits can be made at any of the department's 53 Career Centers located throughout the state.
The funding for unemployment benefits comes from taxes paid by employers; workers in this state do not pay any of the cost.
Generally the weekly amount you may receive in unemployment benefits is based on the wages you earned in the 12 to 15 months before your claim for benefits is filed. You must also meet other eligibility requirements of the law. Information on how a claim is established will be thoroughly explained when you apply for benefits.
Based on individual wages, claims may be paid from a minimum of eight weeks to a maximum of 26 weeks, provided all eligibility requirements are met.
Visit the Department of Labor's website at www.dol.state.ga.us for complete details about unemployment insurance eligibility criteria, the application process and locations of the Career Centers.
