Georgia Power Billing Scam

AUGUSTA -- Many of you got a letter in the mail with your Georgia Power bill, warning you of a recent billing scam. The letter gives the details of the scam and some common sense advice to keep you from being the next victim of it.
The scam is mainly going on in Atlanta, but Georgia Power employees say it could happen anywhere. The way it works is the con artist approaches you when arrive at a Georgia Power location to pay your bill.They offer you a discount if you pay them outside instead of going in. As you might expect, they just take your money and run. And, you still have to pay your bill.
Georgia Power says workers would never approach you outside an office.
"We would like for our customers to know we have no authorized agents to do that and we will never approach you in a parking lot or come to your door soliciting services like that," said Tim McGill of Georgia Power.
A suspect in the case has been arrested in Smyrna, Georgia, but investigators say there could be others involved. If you've been a victim of this, please call the police and file a report.
